This is the former NYC Auburn Road, still looking to the east. Maple Ave. is in the distance (just beyond the yellow CAT). Behind me is the connector. This is the present unloading area for covered hoppers delivered to Victor Insulator. The yellow hose on the left (through the fence) and a few others (out of sight to the left) connect to the troughs under the hoppers. The spur heading off to the left leads to a side access dock, used to unload the occasional boxcar. As evidenced by the ties tucked into the former main, this is now the end of track. Almost everything in this view is original NYC, including the raggedy old (but still working) switch stand. That's not old trolley wire above - it's a safety wire for worker bees to attach to while tending to the covered hopper roof hatches. Beyond Maple Ave. (out of sight), the VHT maintained trail picks back up on the former NYC roadbed. |
